It looks like next years Kingston Classic is going to have a few changes.

According to the Daily Freeman, runners next year will enjoy a new route for the classic. The proposed new route would take runners over the old Rondout Creek bridge into the Port Ewen and then back into Kingston across the same bridge. In years past the classic would mostly take place in Uptown Kingston.

The new route was endorsed by the Esopus Town Board at a meeting that was held on Wednesday.

One of the directors of the race and member of the Kiwanis Club of Kingston, Carlos Perez, told the Freeman that they are still waiting for the approval of permits for the new course and that the start and end points for the 2017 race have not yet been announced.

Perez also said that the HITS organization is no longer going to co sponsor the classic and called it “an amicable decision.”

The Kiwanis Club of Kingston took over the Kingston Classic in 2011 and are excited for next years race.

The 35th running of the Kingston Classic will take place on Sunday, April 23, 2017.
