I have flown out of Stewart's a few times, once to Pittsburgh to see my parents, once to Chicago, and twice to Atlanta for business meetings. I thought it was great that it was so close, didn't have to deal with crazy traffic, and it was easy to have friends drop me off and pick me up. Admittedly, I haven't flown out there for a few years now, but I am not a good flyer.

According to a report by the Times-Herald Record, passenger traffic at Stewart has plummeted in recent years. There were about 309,000 passengers in the 12 months ending in December 2014, down from the peak year of 2007 when there were 925,000 fliers. There are those who feel that many don't know where to find Stewart, so a name change might be the ticket.

The Times-Herald Record reports that both the Orange County Partnership and the Orange County Chamber of Commerce have issued resolutions lending their support to a new name for the airport,  New York International Airport at Stewart Field. It helps not only identify where the airport is but also retains the name of the family who donated the land for the airport.

While the name change hasn't been approved yet, what are your thoughts. Will a name change help bring more passengers into Stewart International Airport, or is it just a waste of time? Let us know in the comments below.
