Thrift Shopping is back and it is wonderful to see how popular shopping at thrift stores has become again. The trends in upcycling items and repurposing art have resulted in many people discovering the rewards of stopping into a Hudson Valley Thrift Store.

I have made it no secret that I enjoy shopping at both antique stores and thrift shops. Some people think that they are one and the same but that is not the case. The two are actually very different but I can see how it might be confusing.

Antique shops can often have a date range for the items they sell, say nothing after 1979. Whereas most thrift shops don't care if it is new or old. They just need it to be sellable. It really just depends on the store and its policy.

Antique shops are usually full of dealers who shop at thrift stores looking for older donated treasures in order to have things to sell. Thrift stores on the other hand usually have a volunteer staff whose job is to sort donations and put them out in the store to be found by thrift store shoppers.

Where can I find a Thrift Shop in the Hudson Valley?

Just about every town has a thrift store of some sort. If they don't stand alone they may be connected to a church or organization that uses the profits from the donations for a good cause. The UCSPAC's Paw Thrift Shop in Saugerties, New York is a good example of a Thrift store that benefits a charity, cause, or nonprofit.

Why You Should Donate Items to a Thrift Shop

As much as we like to shop for a deal remember thrift shops are also great places for our good condition unwanted stuff. None of us want to see useful items thrown away so why not locate a thrift shop you want to help or that you enjoy shopping in and donate your items? It is also great for keeping usable stuff out of our landfills.
