Elderly Couple in Poughkeepsie Awoken to Man Robbing Their House
A man has been arrested after police in Poughkeepsie, New York caught him in the act of robbing the house of an elderly couple while they were inside sleeping.
A night of sleep took a scary turn for an elderly couple in Poughkeepsie, NY this week as they were awoken to find that someone was inside their house robbing them. Most of us can agree that something like this is what many of us have nightmares about and according to the town of Poughkeepsie Police, that nightmare became reality for one area couple.
Elderly Poughkeepsie Couple Find Man Inside House
According to a Poughkeepsie Police Department press release a call came in early on the morning of July 17th reporting that a burglary was in progress at a residence in the Town of Poughkeepsie and that the suspect might still be inside. At approximately 3:18 a.m. Wednesday morning officers responded to an elderly couple's residence on Boulevard Knolls and while en route it was reported that a female had fled the home but her husband was still inside along with the alleged suspect.
When officers arrived on the scene they quickly established a perimeter and began to enter the home through an open garage door. As officers entered the home the suspect 30-year-old Joseph Gallo-Kappus attempted to flee the home while carrying various boxes of jewelry and other items belonging to the homeowners. He was quickly apprehended by officers and placed under arrest and charged with multiple charges including Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal possession of a weapon, Menacing, and Criminal possession of stolen property. He was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
