Horror Film Shot In Hudson Valley Gets Huge Response At SXSW
You've probably already seen the trailer for A Quiet Place, the new horror movie starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt that was shot in different locations all over the Hudson Valley. It's a great trailer that has grabbed my theater's attention every time I've seen it, and I'm pretty hyped for the movie. And now, I just got a lot more hyped.
South By Southwest, the big multimedia festival held every year in Austin, Texas, has been going on this week, and A Quiet Place held its world premiere there on Friday night. Reviews have been almost universally positive, and it seems like a lot of people agree that it's one of the scariest movies in some time.
Variety called it "a tautly original genre-bending exercise." Hollywood Reporter says it's "a terrifying thriller with a surprisingly warm heart." Some critics, like Scott Weinberg, noted that the "audience went pretty nuts for this one." Kristy Puchko said it's a "masterclass in suspense" that "weaponizes your own screams against you."
As a big horror fan, this is pretty exciting to hear. It seems like there's one big runaway horror success every year, and I feel like 2018 might be the year of A Quiet Place. We'll find out for sure when it's released for the rest of us in just a few weeks, on April 6th, 2018.
