A holiday DWI crackdown led to 76 arrests in Dutchess County, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office announced in a press release.

A sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrols were conducted throughout the region from Friday, Dec. 18, 2015 to Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016. The law enforcement details were funded by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee and a grant from the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation. Of the 76 individuals charges, 58 were impaired driving arrests. Others were arrested on unlicensed driving, driving with a suspended license, driving with suspended registration and marijuana possession, among others.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and the Town of Hyde Park Police Department conducted the crackdown effort's joint agency sobriety checkpoint. Over 830 cars passed through the checkpoint on Albany post Road in Hyde Park on Saturday, Dec. 19. Three of the DWI arrests took place at the sobriety checkpoint. In addition, police found that 23 cars were operated by designated drivers.

"The message is clear. Drive sober or get pulled over because if you choose to endanger others you will be arrested and prosecuted," Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William C. Johnson said in the press release.
