Hiker Rescued After Attempting Highest Peak in Catskills

An inexperienced hiker found himself in need of rescue, after attempting the highest peak in the Catskills.

On August, 21, 2018, a mother of a 20-year old inexperienced hiker reported that he was exhausted and unable to self rescue from Slide Mountain.

Slide Mountain is the highest peak in the Catskill Mountains, located in the Town of Shandaken in Ulster County.

Within 30 minutes of beginning their search, three DEC Forest Rangers found the Endwell man asleep along the trail. With some food and water, the hiker regained enough strength to walk out with the responding rangers.

Within two hours, the hiker was reunited with family without the need of any additional first aid.
