A day of hiking near Kaaterskill creek ended in tragedy on Friday.

According to WTEN, 56 year old, Mary Yates form New Jersey was hiking near Kaaterskill creek on Friday when she slipped and fell 45 feet to her death.

The deadly fall took place near Route 23A near the town line that separates the town of Hunter and Catskill.

Authorities have said that Yates was hiking on the trail with two other hikers and slipped and fell. They also said that she was pronounced dead at the scene of the fall.

The Greene County Coroner performed an autopsy on Saturday and said that the cause of death was determined to be massive trauma to the chest.
