Its just about that time of year when parents try to figure out what to do with the kids over the summer break.

According to the Daily Freeman, Kingston has come up with a great idea for families that would have a hard time paying for summer camp.

For the first time ever, Kingston is offering summer day camp at no cost to children who live in areas with high rates of poverty.

Looks like there will be 90 full scholarships available to children in Kingston who meet the residential requirements that have been set up in the terms of a Community Development Block Grant.

The city’s director of communications and community engagement, Megan Weiss-Rowe, told the Freeman that the terms require that, to be eligible, kids must live in the two Kingston census tracts with the highest poverty levels, those tracts are located in Midtown and the Rondout district.

The summer day camp programs will get underway on Monday at various parks thru out the city of Kingston.
