Hudson Valley Fire Department Truck Vandalized
A fire department in Ulster County is reporting that one of its emergency vehicles was vandalized last week.
Forgive me if this comes off as rude but I have to ask, what type of moron would vandalize a truck whos job it is, is to help the community when there's an emergency?
Sadly, that's the question the folks at Woodstock Fire Co.2 Wittenberg are asking after one of its emergency response trucks was vandalized while it was parked on the side of a road.
Firetruck Vandalized Near Woodstock, New York
According to the department's Facebook page, the vandals struck sometime between 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8th, and 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9th, as the truck was parked on Wittenberg Road by the nearby bridge closure.

The department reports that a person or persons destroyed the "tonneau cover" on its firetruck pickup truck. As you can see in the pictures, the cover, which is commonly installed on pick-up trucks to keep the truck bed covered and to protect its cargo, was destroyed.
The department, which services the Bearsville, NY area, went on to explain that they park the truck in this position so that its response time isn't affected during emergency calls.
"We may need to reconsider leaving the truck there. If we relocate the truck, it will add 20-25 minutes at least to our response time instead of the 5 minutes it takes now," said a department official. If anyone has any information as to who might be responsible, please contact the department at 845-679-6803.
Community Wants to Help
Soon after posting the damaged truck on Facebook, many in the community began to offer money and services to purchase a new truck bed cover, including Speedys Towing, which offered to "donate funds to the replacement of this!"
If you would like to make a donation to help the department purchase a replacement, you can mail a check to them at:
