Did you hear about the new limited edition quarters being released this week to celebrate America's 250th?

To celebrate America's 250th birthday, the United States Mint has announced it's releasing 250,000 limited-edition quarters into circulation just ahead of Independence Day, giving Americans a chance to find a unique piece of history right in their pocket.

Limited Edition Quarters

According to WPIX, the special Semiquincentennial 2026 Declaration of Independence Quarters feature a distinctive "July 4th" mark to commemorate the nation's 250th anniversary. The coins will be randomly distributed through banks and financial institutions across the country, meaning you never know when one might show up in your pocket change.

"This is more than a coin; it's a defining moment in our nation's story," said United States Mint Director Paul Hollis. "We hope Americans enjoy the search for these iconic quarters as they're meant to be shared, saved, and remembered as part of this historic anniversary."

Treasure Hunt for Quarters

Unlike collectible coins that are only sold directly to collectors, these quarters are being released into everyday circulation, turning a trip to the grocery store, gas station, or coffee shop into a potential treasure hunt.

Only 250,000 of the commemorative quarters are being released nationwide, making them much harder to find than a standard quarter. So, before you toss your spare change into the cup holder or coin jar this Fourth of July, take a second look. You just might be holding one of the rarest quarters released in honor of America's 250th birthday.
