
‘Elvis’ Busted on the New York State Thruway
A traffic stop on the New York State Thruway uncovers a large amount of crack cocaine.
Law enforcement agencies across the Hudson Valley are continuing their efforts to take illegal drugs off our streets and send the drug dealers to jail.
Traffic Stop Uncovers Crack Cocaine
According to a New York State Police press release, members of the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) were on patrol on Friday, April 25th, on the New York State Thruway when they conducted a traffic stop which uncovered a large amount of illegal drugs.

The press release stated that CSU members observed a 2021 Jeep Cherokee traveling northbound on Interstate 87 in the Town of Catskill, which was operating in violation of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. NYS Troopers initiated a traffic stop and began to interview the driver, who was later identified as 51-year-old Elvis E. Pigott, of Bennington, Vermont.
Ulster County Sheriff K-9 Detects Drugs
While troopers interviewed Pigott, an Ulster County Sheriff’s Office deputy and his K-9 partner, Howie, conducted an exterior scan of the vehicle. Howie gave a positive alert to his handler that there was the presence of illegal narcotics. Following the notification, Troopers began to conduct a more thorough search of the vehicle, which revealed approximately 60.9 grams of crack cocaine.
Troopers proceeded to arrest Pigott and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, both class B felonies, along with Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, both misdemeanors. Pigott was arraigned at the Town of Ulster Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
