Another Public Pool with Problems This Time its Monticello, New York
I am a homeowner in the Hudson Valley but I don't have a pool. Honestly, I feel like this is the summer to have a pool. The heat and humidity are making me wish I had invested in a pool just so I could have used it this past month.
But you make due that's why over the weekend when I had friends over for a BBQ I actually went out and bought a kiddie pool at Dollar General. It was so crazy hot I figured we needed something cool to stick our feet in. It worked.
Community Pools Have Had Their Share of Problems this Summer
Many people who don't have a pool join a community pool. I have never been a community pool person. There were a few times when I was younger my parents signed us up for a club pool. It was always fun to go but honestly, I would have preferred to have my own. That was not an option since my Dad was in the Army.

Maybe this experience of having to use a community pool as a kid is why I understand when folks are upset about their community pools having problems like a few are this summer. Everything from closed one day a week to closed for the season.
Ulster County Pool Complex Closed for the Summer
A few weeks back I told you how the Ulster County Pool was going under repair shortly after opening for the season. Sadly for those hoping to make that their summer oasis the pool quickly announced that they would be closed for the season due to the extent of the repairs needed to make the pool useable again.
Then last week I came across a notice about a pool in the Town of Monticello that was going to have to be closed due to staffing issues. Lifeguards are hard to come by these days. The news has been covering how New York City beaches have a shortage of lifeguards so it is no surprise that community pools in the Hudson Valley and Catskills could have the same issue.
Dillion Park Pool in Monticello Closed on Mondays
Dillion Park Pool in the Village of Monticello announced they would be closed on Mondays due to a lack of staffing which then opened up an opportunity for the pool to be rented by a group that requires special swimming conditions. Apparently, they hired their own lifeguard.
I have not been able to get an official word but it seems once word got out that the Dillion Park Pool would be closed on Mondays a group offered to rent it for their use.
The initial announcement that Dillion Park Pool would be closed on Monday also included DeHoyes Park but that has since been updated. The new schedule has the Dillion Park Pool closed on Mondays but DeHoyes Park will be open.
This has left some residents in Monticello questioning if the Village can do that but from everything I have read it is possible. So Village residents will have to get used to the idea of only using the pool Tuesday through Sunday this summer. Dillion Park Pool will remain closed to the public on Mondays.
