Leaving Your Pet in a Locked Car? Think Again
Hudson Valley Police Department is urging pet owners to STOP leaving their pets locked in cars this summer as it is extremely dangerous!
As the warmer months arrive in New York, one Ulster County Police Department has shared a reminder for pet owners on Facebook that might leave you scratching your head!! The Ulster Police Department in Ulster County is reporting that they have been getting a number of calls for dogs locked in vehicles throughout the town saying,
"As the warm weather has surely arrived we have been getting a number of calls for dogs locked in vehicles throughout the town. If you plan on going shopping please leave your pets at home."
Car Temperature Pet Safety
It's shocking that some pet owners are still unaware of how dangerous it can be to leave a pet locked in a car during the warmer months and to show how quickly it can turn deadly the police department shared this chart...
As you can see in as little as ten minutes on an 80-degree day the temperature inside a locked car can rise almost 20 degrees to a dangerous 99 degrees!! If that's not scary enough if a pet is left in a car on a 90-degree day for 30 minutes the temperature in the car after only 30 minutes can reach a deadly 124 degrees. Obviously, that temperature range isn't safe for any living thing so the best advice for pet owners is to plan ahead.
