April Fools Round Up: Who Had The Best Prank in the Hudson Valley?
The first day of April is always a tricky one. Did you fall for any April Fools Day jokes and pranks?
Locally Hudson Valley businesses and organizations had a ton of fun on social media during the silly holiday.
The Origins of April Fools Day
Pranksters love when we turn the calendar from March to April. But do they know the history of April Fools Day? It dates way farther back than we ever expected.
According to Rutgers University, April Fools Day dates back to the 1500s in France. During that time period, the Julian calendar (which was "established by Julius Caesar) was replaced with the Gregorian calendar.
On the Julian calendar, the new year would start on April 1st while the Gregorian calendar would start January 1st.
So those who weren't informed of the calendar and new year change were mocked and called "April Fools."
The more you know, right?

Including The Kartrite Resort in Monticello, New York. The largest indoor waterpark in New York shared news of a new indoor water park for pets called Kartrite Kritters!

Looking for some history-haha's? The team at Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill shared this April Fools "fun fact":
Did you know: Eleanor secretly had the bulky, muscular legs of a body builder? By wearing clothing acceptable for the time period, Eleanor hid her athletic physique under long skirts and dresses.
The photo will have you actually LOLing:
Those look like Saquon Barkley's legs! Obviously, it was all part of an April Fools Day joke, but Eleanor did frequently walk the trails on the property and Eleanor's Walk is real.
