Violent Assault Reported Near Elementary School in Beacon

On January 14th, 2026 reports came in of a heavy police presence in Beacon, more specifically near Sargent Elementary School.

The Beacon community was reasonably concerned as the school announced they were in a lockout. Shortly after this information made the rounds, the City of Beacon Police released a statement to social media.

In the statement, City of Beacon Police Chief Thomas Figlia explained "The City of Beacon Police Department is currently investigating a possible, past occurred, assault on Tioronda Ave. in the area of Wolcott Ave."

We also learned that the initial call that Beacon Police received was about an unconscious female in the area of Tioronda Ave." Once law enforcement arrived on the scene the learned that the victim had been "seriously assaulted."

Beacon Police Look For Answers in Violent Assault

Following the assault near Tioronda Ave. Beacon Police released more details about a possible suspect.

In a press release, shared to social media on January 15th, Beacon Police describe the suspect as "a white male, wearing a black leather jacket or coat (not a puff coat), a knit hat and blue pants or jeans."

They add "The suspect is described as possibly being in his 30s-40s, approximately 5'11" with a medium build and having a brown, very close beard.

Additionally, Beacon Police asked anyone in the neighborhood of Tioronda Ave. in the area of Wolcott Ave. to check their security cameras.

Anyone that may have captured the suspect on camera was asked to call City of Beacon Police Department at 845-831-4111 immediately.

Beacon Police Chief Addresses Community Concern

Since the initial report, there have been no updates on the case. With such a violent assault, it's no surprise the community has questions and concerns.

Beacon Police Chief  Thomas Figlia shared a message to the Beacon community and explained that his statement wasn't a press release "but rather a message" from Figlia as Chief of Police.

In the message Figlia explains that he has received "numerous emails and calls requesting updates regarding the January 14th case" but can't respond to each an every message individually.

Figlia writes:

To be clear, I don't see these requests as unreasonable in any way, I just have to be honest about my capacity to respond to each one while we are also working on this investigation.

With that being said, Figlia shares that since January 14th the City of Beacon Police department "has been working non-stop to investigate and solve this case." He adds

We have spent untold hours poring over evidence because the absolute best thing we can do for this community is to solve it.

The message goes on to explain that "members of the department are going to bed thinking about the case and waking up doing the same." Figlia stresses that this case is "currently the absolute top priority" of the City of Beacon Police Department.
