
Police Investigate Serious Assault Near Beacon Elementary School
Reports of Heavy Police Activity in Beacon, New York
In the early afternoon hours on Wednesday January 14th, 2026, reports came in that there was heavy police activity in the City of Beacon.
By 1pm the City of Beacon Police Department released a statement on social media, Beacon Chief of Police Thomas Figlia writes "The City of Beacon Police Department is currently investigating a possible, past occurred, assault on Tioronda Ave. in the area of Wolcott Ave."
We learned that the nearby Sargent School was placed on a lockout, which means there is a safety issue outside of the school.
At the time, the Beacon City School District was notified just as a precaution, Chief Figlia adds "The area was checked and there does not appear to be a specific danger to the public in that area at this time."
Assault Near a Beacon, NY Elementary School Causes School Lockout
A few hours after the initial reports came in The City of Beacon Police Department shared the details of what exactly happened earlier in the afternoon.
According to the press release the Beacon Police Department received a call around 9:20 am "regarding a female who was unconscious in the area of Tioronda Ave. and Wolcott Ave." Officials believed the female may have been a victim of a crime.
Once police arrive at the scene they learned that the victim had been "seriously assaulted."
Since they found the victim so close to the school, law enforcement notified the Beacon City School District who in turn called for the lockout so the area could be thoroughly searched.
City of Beacon Police Continue to Investigate Assault
The area around Sargent Elementary School was searched and no threat was located. The City of Beacon Police are confident that "the suspect was not in that immediate area."
In the press release the City of Beacon Police share that the victim is currently in stable, physical condition. They add "Given the nature of the incident, however, the department is, even now, still working with her in order to determine key details of the crime."
With that being said they are not releasing any more information.
Because of this, we are not releasing any information that is not yet fully confirmed. A suspect has not been identified and they don't have any one in custody. The City of Beacon Police also explain that it is their "obligation to the victim's privacy and wellbeing as well as our obligation not to put out information that could compromise this investigation."
