Slow Down New York and Give Our First Responder a Break
This has been a week of some serious accidents. Hudson Valley first responders have had their work cut out for them with several accidents.
Some are just traffic snarles as in the case of the truck and camper stuck on the Mid-Hudson Bridge but others are far more serious like in the case of the car fire in Catskill.
The Hudson Valley has Seen Some Serious Accidents this Week
I will say that lately, it seems accidents are getting more serious or maybe it is just that more of them are making the news. I find myself driving around asking "What's the hurry?"
Why is everyone driving as if they are the only person on the road? There are some days I see how people drive and think remember when driving was fun, an adventure to be enjoyed not a race to the finish.

One accident this week had first responders busy in Liberty, New York. It is not clear what happened but the vehicle in question ended up over 100 yards into the woods. The accident occurred near State Route 17 and Exit 100 A.
According to the Liberty Fire Department who responded to the scene the vehicle had left the road, rolled over a few times, and came to rest on its side. Fortunately, the lone occupant was found at the scene on top of the vehicle. The victim was flown to Westchester Medical. Their condition was not disclosed.
A Rescue rope pulley system was established from the top of the embankment. Once the victim was safely moved onto a back board and secured into a stokes basket, members then hauled the victim up the embankment and turned him over to EMS (via Liberty Fire Department Facebook)
The Liberty Fire Department with help from WSSFD and Loch Sheldrake Fire Department had their work cut out for them but they did manage to salvage the vehicle from the woods. It was no easy feat as you can see from the pictures.
Also assisting at the scene were NYSP, Mobile Medic/Empress EMS, Livingston Manor Volunteer Ambulance, and Prestige Towing. LMFD stood by at Station 17 covering Liberty and WSS districts during the incident. (via Liberty Fire Department Facebook)
Let's give our first responders a break and promise to drive carefully this weekend.
