What Information are the Cameras Collecting in Ulster County?

The cameras, which were turned on on Sunday, September 7, 2025, are traffic counters that will record vehicle type, speed, and volume over a 5-day period in the areas mentioned above. The cameras, which were placed at the request of the Ulster County Transportation Council and installed by National Data & Surveying Services, are temporary and will help county officials track travel trends, identify congestion, and plan future improvements.

"No personal data is collected — just vehicle movement to support smarter, safer transportation planning."

Once the data is collected and processed, it will be shared with the New York State Department of Transportation and made available to the public online here.
