A Summer Tradition Preparing to Open with Phase 4
Cowboy Up the Painted Pony Championship Rodeo is ready for their 2020 Season. When you visit their website it says they are closed but in their Facebook post today they announced their sign is up and that they getting ready to open as part of Phase 4 which is the last phase in re-opening New York.
I haven't actually gotten to visit the Painted Pony Rodeo since the mid 90's when my friends and I use to spend Labor Day Weekend at a campground in Lake Luzerne. Hopefully, I can fixed that this summer by heading up to the Painted Pony located just outside of Lake George. July 3rd is the planned opening day. They are officially on my stay-cation bucket list.
The plan is to open on Wednesday July 3rd and then be open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday through Labor Day. They have a 2020 Season pass available for $60. They offer a Texas Style BBQ at 6 pm each night and then the Rodeo at 8 PM rain or Shine. If you have never been to a rodeo this is a great place to learn more about this traditional American sporting event which entertains people of all ages. It makes the perfect family night.
Shawn Graham became the owner operator of the Painted Pony in 2001 according to their official website. It also mentions that he rebuilt the Longhorn Salon, covered the grandstands and has been working on the stock. They are keeping the western tradition alive in upstate New York.
Rodeo is an action pack sport comprised of a variety of events. At the Painted Pony you will get to experience everything from bull riding to team roping to barrel racing. If you are new it will be a great introduction to rodeo and for anyone is familiar with the rodeo world you find it to be authentic and worth the trip north from the Hudson Valley.
