The alert informed everyone that there was a 911 outage in Dutchess County and provided a few alternate phone numbers that folks could call in case of an emergency, including 845-486-6545, 845-486-6546, 845-486-6547, and 845-486-6548.
What Caused the 911 Outage?
According to the Dutchess County Emergency Management Facebook page, the interruption of services happened after there was a line issue with a Verizon fiber optic transmission line.
Obviously, when 911 isn't working, it's important to let folks know what to do in case of an emergency, so thankfully, the public safety alert system worked, but many were wondering how they were supposed to know when the services would be available again.
"How will we know when it's back? Don't want to try it as a false alarm just to see if it works...Will you issue us a robo-text or alarm?" asked one resident.
911 Restored
It's unclear if a new Public Safety Alert was sent to residents to let them know that the 911 services were restored or not (we didn't get one), but we did learn that the 9-1-1 services were fully restored as of 9:05 p.m., according to the Dutchess County Government Facebook page.
