Car Chase, Shoplifters, and a Cheer Squad “Rescue”: A Wild Day for Yorktown Police
The Yorktown Police Department had themselves a day on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026.
On social media they called it "Prime time crime time for a few hours" that ended with "good luggage."
Yorktown Police Car Chase Ends Up in Putnam County
The Yorktown Police Department took to social media to share an in-depth look in one of their busier days on the job as of late.
It all started with an alert from the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center. There was a vehicle that "had fled an earlier attempted traffic stop" with New York State Troopers.
Officer Nuccilli of the Yorktown Police Department spotted the vehicle and successfully pulled the driver over. The officer even made contact with the driver, but then the driver took off.
The Yorktown Police Department writes " Our pursuit of the vehicle and the defiant driver in question took us into the bucolic and friendly confines of Putnam County, USA, where our good friends at #Carmel Police Department (CPD) and #Putnam County Sheriffs Office (PCSO), were waiting to assist us."
Unfortunately, the traffic stop didn't stop there. There was a foot pursuit too! The driver took off on foot across Route 6. Officers tracked down the suspect and were able to get them in custody.
YPD writes:
Our poor driving cold dasher turned out to be a parole absconder out of Broome County, NY. Y'all can keep him........defendant turned over to New York State Parole Officers.
And that was only the beginning.
Shoplifter Stopped in By Yorktown PD
After a stressful car chase and foot pursuit, Yorktown PD was back on the beat tracking down a "secret shopping duo" from Massachusetts and Connecticut.
The 2 shoppers "allegedly left Dick's without paying for several hundred dollars of merchandise."
A call was made where suspect and vehicle identification was provided. That information was quickly shared with officers. Yorktown Police Officer Rana "observed the suspect vehicle" and then performed a traffic stop.
The stop was "quickly assisted by multiple YPD patrols" according to the statement on social media and the "two out of state visitors" are now on their way to the "YPD Castle on the Hill for arrest processing."
Yorktown Police End Marathon Workday on a High Note
First responders aren't just reporting to thefts and traffic stops, they're also helping their community in need.
The Yorktown High School Cheerleading team recently qualified to compete at Nationals in Orlando, Florida and the Yorktown Police Department was set to give the squad a police escort out of town.
While everything mostly went off without a hitch, there was just one bump in the road.
As the caravan escort took a sharp turn on Route 35 going towards Somers "luggage proceeded to start tumbling out of the luggage compartment" from the coach bus.
Because what else could go wrong that day!
Apparently, the driver and squad "had zero idea" that the luggage fell off the bus. Thankfully though, Yorktown Police Officers Uhl and Ellsworth were there to "dodge the carnage, stop vehicular traffic, retrieve the luggage from a quarter mile stretch of Route 35 , and ultimately load our Husker Cheer Squad back up!"
They do note that the girls could maybe back lighter next time. We're exhausted just reading this.
A job well done by the Yorktown PD!
