Emu Escapes New York Petting Zoo, Leads Ramapo Police on Wild Adventure

This isn't a call the Town of Ramapo Police are used to getting.

Emu Escapes Zoo Takes Off On Ramapo New York Adventure

The Town of Ramapo Police Department shared one of their more unique calls over the weekend on social media. In the post they write:

Ramapo PD officers recently responded to an unusual call after an emu decided to make a break for it from a local petting zoo.

Thankfully, Town of Ramapo PD was quick to respond and locate their "feathered fugitive" however, wrangling the bird was way more difficult than they expect. The social media statement went on to say:

Patrol officers quickly located our feathered fugitive, but as you can imagine, convincing an emu that the adventure was over took a little teamwork.

Trying to wrangle an escaped emu doesn't sound like an easy task, but the Town of Ramapo PD was up for the challenge.

Ramapo PD along with Skydio Drone were able to work together to track down the wild bird and safely capture it.

officers were able to track the emu’s movements and safely get it under control.

 

Thankfully, the  emu was safely recovered "and returned to where it belong." No injuries or citations have been reported. Of course Ramapo PD had some fun with the statement, at one point they stated: "Sgt. Anton ultimately made it very clear that its unauthorized tour of Ramapo was officially over."

It's 2026. If there's video footage of a funny situation, you have to know the internet is going to have a field day with it.

With that being said, there's basically a music video out about the emu encounter. It's hilarious.
