This Hudson Valley Bridge Gives Me an Anxiety Attack Every Time I Cross It, You?
What is the worst bridge to drive across in the Hudson Valley?
If you spend any time driving around the Hudson Valley and ever have to cross the Hudson River, the only way to do it is by using one of the main bridges we have in the area.
We have the Bear Mountain, Newburgh Beacon, Mid-Hudson, Kingston-Rhinecliff, and a bit north, the Rip Van Winkle bridges. Each bridge gives drivers the opportunity to cross the river safely, but out of the five, there is one that I have an issue crossing every single time I cross it.
Mid-Hudson Bridge
At least once a week, I travel for work from Poughkeepsie across the Mid Hudson Bridge to Highland, as I make my way to Newburgh, and just about every week I have an anxiety attack as I approach the bridge on the Poughkeepsie side. Let me explain, I'm normally driving around 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday evening and as I drive west to cross the bridge, it has two lanes open, the middle and right lanes.
If I'm not in the right lane to cross the bridge, I start to sweat profusely!! Last week I had to drive halfway across the bridge in the middle lane and I thought I was going to die. I couldn't get over to the right until I let a big rig pass and once it did, I got over to the right and was able to breathe. Seriously, the bridge is so narrow and if you've never driven it...when you drive in the middle lane, you have traffic coming at you in the other direction, you have those orange polls that separate the lanes, AND you have cars and trucks on the right of you. I'm sweating just trying about it....LOL!
Newburgh Beacon Bridge
Jess mentioned that the Newburgh Beacon Bridge is the worst for her. She said anytime she crosses it, she has to be on the phone with someone to talk her through it. YES, she calls someone every time she has to drive across it. WHY? She mentioned with all the constitution, lane changes, and in some cases going the right direction on the opposite side of the bridge, all lead her to freak out!
What bridge freaks you out?
Bear Mountain Bridge
Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge
Rip Van Winkle
