It’s Here: Catskill Ski Area Becomes Exclusive Semi Private

As the old saying goes, "Nobody likes change," and it seems that is overwhelmingly true in light of some of the changes that have happened at Windham Mountain Ski Area. The new Windham Mountain Club is officially open.

If you are wondering what Windham Mountain Club is then you probably aren't someone who lives near Windham Mountain or has gone skiing there. Windham Mountain Club is the new semi-private all-season mountain community that is now the old Windham Mountain.

Can the General Public Ski at Windham Mountain?

Earlier this year it was revealed that Windham Mountain would become a semi-private club. This means that there are certain amenities that will be reserved on the mountain for club members only.

However, this does not mean that the general public can't go skiing like they always did in the past.

What do you Get With Your Public Ski Pass at Windham Mountain?

There are quite a few Windham Mountain Club Membership Amenities but you get a lot as well with a regular season pass. If you are a winter ticket holder with a public pass you can ski and ride the mountain, you can have lodging, you also get the on-snow dem, rentals and lessons, seasonal programs along with snow tubing. Valet parking however has an extra fee.

These privileges are also available to the winter season pass holders and people with lodging passes by Windham Mountain Club. Residential or Founding members of the club get all of that plus what they call fast tracks, some guaranteed access, and some reservation priority. They also get valet parking for free.

Other amenities are built into the club membership including golf plus other seasonal activities and access to the restaurants. In the future, there will be additional things added that include a spa, horseback riding, and sport shooting.

New Windham Mountian Club Not Popular with Everyone

Unfortunately, some people who have checked in on the Windham Mountain Club's social media think this new direction for the club is a mistake and it is not making them very happy. Many local people have raised concerns that the more members there are the fewer opportunities there will be for the general public to use the mountain.

Not only do they worry this will mean the mountain gets cut off from the public but they feel it will affect local business. One person actually commented that it could become like Places out west that only wealthy people could afford to visit.

Other ski areas are ready for the season as well and they haven't gone to the semi-private club model yet so if you are looking for some general public skiing you can enjoy Belleayre Mountain in Highmount, New York, or the newly redesigned Holiday Mountain Ski & Fun Park in Monticello, New York.
