I don't know about you, but this time of year I could eat a hot dog every day. There's nothing better than the snap of a hot dog and an ice-cold drink on a summer day.

Don't come at me about that mystery meat nonsense because I'm just going to tell you I don't care.

With that being said, there have been a few recent polls regarding Americans and their favorite kinds of hot dogs, condiments, and what hot dog types they're Googling that have me scratching my head.

What's a White Hot Dog and Why Are New Yorkers Googling It?

Google Trends has been digging deep into the delicious worlds of hot dogs as we approach the 4th of July holiday. The looked into some of the more unique hot dog styles that are being Googled in each state.

Now, some of the searches are a give. For instance in Illinois, they're looking up Chicago Style Hot Dogs. Makes sense.

But in New York, we're apparently Googling a White Hot Dog. I've lived in New York all of my 34 years of life and can confidently say I've never heard of a white hot dog.

Apparently, this is a popular Upstate New York thing. Probably like how they call Black and White Cookies Half Moons, weird.

I digress.

I did a little research and found out that a White Hot is made up of pork, beef, and veal. Then it is served in a bun, with mustard, onions, and a type of meat sauce.

I found a popular upstate White Hot company that breaks down the (simple) process.

Who knew? Not me. I'll stick with my perfectly charred BBQ hot dog either way. You can look up other Google Hot Dog trends across the US below:

What Are You Putting on Your Hot Dog?

When you finally get your hands on a hot dog, what are you putting on it.

Who would have thought there would be so many debatable conversations when it comes to hot dogs? Hot Dog Lovers are very passionate about what condiments go on their hot dogs.

I remember I once said I put Ketchup on my hot dog and someone called me childish.

In a recent poll, we learned that the #1 hot dog condiment is mustard, followed by ketchup and then your fixings like onions, relish and chili.

Is There Such Thing as The Perfect Hot Dog?

According to a recent survey by US Foods there is such thing as the 'Perfect Hot Dog." Numbers don't lie, US Foods explains that this is what Americans look for in the perfect hot dog:

But for the perfect dog, Americans believe the top condiments are mustard, ketchup, onions, relish and chili. The hot dog should be grilled and served on a white bun. The most popular sides are french fries, potato salad, potato chips, baked beans, and macaroni and cheese.

Sounds accurate to me. What do you think? While you mull that over, check out some great local hot dog spots to hit up across the mid-Hudson region this summer (or all year around, who are we kidding).
