Millenia Hearts Are Breaking: Claire's Files For Bankruptcy
If you grew up in the 90s and early 2000s and spent a lot of time at your local mall, there's a good chance you found yourself inside a Claire's or Icing store.
Claire's and Icing were predominately jewelry stores and were the go to spot to get your piercings done and to pick up other accessories like sunglasses, nail polish and makeup.
Sadly, it looks like the jewelry chain is filing for bankruptcy. According to a press release, Claire's Holdings LLC and Claire's U.S. have filed for bankruptcy for a second time.
The first time was back in 2018 and since then the once popular store has had trouble keeping up with online retailers like Temu and Shein.
Will Claire's & Icing Locations Close in New York State?
In a statement Claire's CEO Chris Cramer said "This decision is difficult, but a necessary one."
Adding " Increased competition, consumer spending trends and the ongoing shift away from brick-and-mortar retail, in combination with our current debt obligations and macroeconomic factors, necessitate this course of action for Claire's and its stakeholders."

With that being said, it looks like most Claire's stores in the U.S. will remain open as the company "continues to explore all strategic alternatives."
However, USA Today is reporting that 13 Claire's stores are closing but none in New York. Icing will be closing 5 locations, with 1 being in New York. The Icing located in Greece Ridge in Rochester, NY will close.
We'll keep an eye on this situation and update you if any more NY Claire's and Icing locations close in the future.
