A day of fun in the snow ends in tragedy.

According to the Daily Freeman, a 13 year old boy in Greenwich, New York, about 10 miles east of Saratoga Springs, has died after he was buried in a snow mound that was created by the Department of Public Works crews clearing streets on Tuesday.

Greenwich-Cambridge Police Chief George Bell told the Freeman that after investigating it was determined that two boys were playing in a large snow mound and they burrowed into the back of the mound when a truck dumped more snow onto the mound, burying both boys.

The boys were reported missing around 5 p.m. by family and once they figured out what had happened, workers and police frantically used shovels and their hands to free the boys from the snow. As they were shoveling they found Joshua Demarest unresponsive and rushed him to Saratoga Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.

The second boy was found about an hour later and is recovering at home.
