Thursday’s Snow Caused The Worst Commute Ever

You know that Thursday, November 15 brought the first snow of the end of 2018.

We had a snowstorm on Thursday, November 15. SURPRISED?! Well, apparently the entire Hudson Valley was because no one seemed prepped for this storm. It started snowing at approximately 3 p.m. in the Hudson Valley, but the thing is we knew it was coming. So why was no one prepped?!

Look we live in NEW YORK. We are an eastern state. It snows here. We all know this, as much as we hate to admit it. But we know what snow does: messes things up! So when we were getting reports of a major snowstorm coming to the region, this should've been no different than any other time we have a snow storm. It's like suddenly everyone plowing/salting/sanding in the Hudson Valley disappeared.

I live in Orange County. Our station is located in Poughkeepsie. In a perfect (read: dry) world, my commute home takes 45 minutes. It took me two and a half hours to get home. OVER DOUBLE THE NORMAL LENGTH. To get to where I lived, the main way was blocked. So, I thought 'okay, I'll just go around to the other way'. WRONG. That way was blocked too. I see that Albany Post Road near Angry Orchard had a cop parked horizontally. I pull up and roll my window down and here is the exact exchange between the cop and I:

Me: Hello?
Cop: Hi there
Me: I live up this road
Cop: That's awesome
Me: Can I get up there?!
Cop: Nope
Me: Ugh that blows
Cop: Yeah, it does. There's a tractor trailer blocking the road up there. Good luck!

WHAT!? I swear my road and the roads leading to it weren't even touched by a plow. I know that the Department of Transportation has a lot of ground to cover, or should I say uncover, but I feel like everyone was unprepared this time around.
