This Week is the Deadline For Your Pumpkin Patch
It is not to late but I wouldn't wait much longer. If you were thinking this is the year I am planting a pumpkin for Halloween instead of growing one you might be almost out of time. According to the Farmer's Almanac you should have had the seeds in the ground a week or so back but I am thinking with dedication and some Miracle Grow you can be ready by October 31, 2018.
People get wrapped up in Christmas in July. The heat like we have had this past weekend gets everyone wishing for cooler temps and thinking of winter wonderlands. But before we wear parkas and mittens we will be dressing up and handing out candy.
Growing your own pumpkins can be fun, however it can also be a lot of work. Pumpkins need watering and you need to make sure the deer don't eat the blossoms. There are also numerous varieties to choose from so make sure you grow the carving kind or all this work could end up as pie. I like to grow some of the small ones that are more in the gourd family but you have to also try growing the tradition pumpkin as well. Good luck and happy planting
