New York Mets Are Coming to West Point This Spring

The New York Mets are returning to West Point for the first time in 33 years.

The Army Black Knights will host the Mets in an exhibition game at Johnson Stadium on March 31.

Army's Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan stated:

We are excited to have the New York Mets back at West Point before the start of the 2017 Major League Baseball season. We would like to thank the Mets owners Fred and Jeff Wilpon, Saul Katz and General Manager Sandy Alderson for renewing this long standing tradition of us hosting a professional baseball organization. This is a great opportunity for our cadets and the entire West Point community.

The Mets have a bit of a history at West Point, as they first faced Army on their home field only a year after they started as a franchise in May 6, 1963. The Mets won that game 3-0.

The Mets would return to West Point again seven more times over the years: 1965, 1967, 1971,1973, 1975, 1979 and1984.

The last time Army faced a pro team was in 2013 when they lost to the New York Yankees, 10-5. The Black Knights officially open their 2017 season this Friday, when they face Air Force and Number #33 ranked Tulane.
