Young bird watchers, a challenge awaits you.

New York state is home to an array of different types of birds. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation wants the youth of New York to capitalize on what they can find right in their backyard to win some fun prizes.

The I Bird NY Beginner's Birding Challenge is created for birders ages 16 and younger. Participants must be able to identify 10 different NY species of birds. Everyone that takes part in the challenge will receive "a certificate of participation, an official I Bird NY bracelet" as well as being in the running to win birding accessories.

If you're interested in joining in, but are an expert birder you will have to identify at least 10 of 50 listed bird species.
