We wondered if we might see some storms across the Hudson Valley this afternoon, and indeed we are. Quickly on the heels of one severe weather warning comes another.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northwestern Sullivan County until 2 this afternoon. A storm was located about 15 miles west of Liberty and is moving to the east around 10 miles per hour. It is expected to be by Jeffersonville and Roscoe around 1:55 and Hazel around 2.

The hazard with this storm cell is torrential rainfall, the possibility of quarter-sized hail, and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. As a result, minor damage to homes and vehicles are a possibility, as is the danger of falling limbs and scattered power outages.

Cloud-to-ground lightning is also being reported with this storm. Please move inside ahead of this storm, preferably in the lowest level of your home or building. As this storm cell continues to move eastward, should it prompt any other weather warnings, we will update you with that information throughout the afternoon.

If you see severe weather developing in your area, please take cover and be safe before you report your conditions to the National Weather Service.
