
Multiple People Injured in Head-on Car Accident in Dutchess County
A two-vehicle accident in Dutchess County has sent multiple people to the hospital with severe injuries.
A serious accident with injuries involving two vehicles resulted in Route 9G in the Rhinebeck, NY area being closed for hours while first responders worked to rescue all involved, according to a recent post on the Rhinebeck Fire Department Facebook page.
Head-on Crash in Rhinebeck, NY
The post stated that at approximately 12:53 p.m. on Friday, January 2nd, 2026, the Rhinebeck Fire Department (RFD) was dispatched to a reported two-vehicle, head-on motor vehicle collision with injuries on Route 9G in Dutchess County, NY.
Upon arrival, first responders encountered a serious collision that involved multiple patients, several of whom were trapped inside the vehicles.
Advanced Life Support Resources Requested
RFD Chief Bryant Knapp stated that due to the severity of the accident, RFD requested that additional advanced life support resources and a second heavy rescue unit respond to the scene.
RFD, along with numerous other local agencies were able to remove each of the people involved in the crash.
Three People in Critical Condition
RFD didn't reveal the names of those involved but did say that three patients, all in critical condition, were transported to Northern Dutchess Hospital and Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital to receive treatment.

Route 9G was closed for several hours while first responders facilitated patient care, extrication operations, vehicle removal, and accident reconstruction. The roadway was reopened at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The accident is under investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. When more information is available, we will update this article.
