
Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Dutchess County Man
A two-vehicle accident has tragically claimed the life of a 28-year-old man from Hyde Park, NY.
According to the Town of Hyde Park Police Department, a Sunday afternoon motor vehicle accident in Hyde Park has claimed the life of a Dutchess County resident and sent another to the hospital with serious injuries.
Fatal Car Accident in Hyde Park, NY
Police said that on Sunday, December 14th, 2025, at approximately 4:21 p.m., the Town of Hyde Park Police Department was called to respond to a reported two-vehicle head-on motor vehicle accident that happened in the area of State Route 9 and Huyler Drive in Hyde Park, NY.
Upon arrival, officers located the two vehicles involved in the head-on collision and discovered that both of the drivers were trapped inside their vehicles.
Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Dutchess County, NY
Following the accident, police began a preliminary investigation, which indicated that a white 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck, which was traveling northbound on State Route 9, crossed over the double yellow center line and struck head-on a 2010 Honda Accord that was traveling southbound.

As first responders attended to the occupants, it was determined that the driver and sole occupant of the Honda Accord, 28-year-old Alijah M Johnson, from Hyde Park, New York, was tragically killed in the accident.
The driver and sole occupant of the Ford F-150, later identified as 46-year-old Richard Charles Rider, from Kingston, New York, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Cause of Fatal Accident in Hyde Park, NY
It's unclear exactly what led to the accident, but police did say that witnesses did report seeing the Ford F-150 cross into the southbound lane before it collided with the Honda Accord.
Police said that the investigation remains ongoing and that the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting. No charges have been filed at this time.
