Goshen School Community Mourning the Loss of Student

An Orange County, NY, school community is coming together after the heartbreaking death of a student in Goshen.

The Goshen Central School District shared a message with families and the community following the student’s passing, describing the day as a “solemn, difficult day” for students, staff, and faculty.

While the district has not released additional details about the student or the circumstances surrounding the death, officials said the focus throughout the day was on making sure students and staff had the support they needed.

According to the school district, there were countless reminders throughout the day of what makes the Goshen community so special. Students checked in on one another, making sure their classmates weren't facing the difficult day alone. Staff members also made themselves available for students who needed someone to talk to, a quiet place to sit, or simply someone nearby.

The district said colleagues supported one another as well, with people throughout the school community showing genuine care, patience and compassion.

Most importantly, school officials said there were many meaningful and insightful conversations taking place. Mental health professionals and community partners were also on hand to provide additional support to students and staff as they worked through the difficult day.
