Dear Rockefeller Center We Need To Talk...

Earlier this week, Rockefeller Center announced they have found the perfect tree for the 2024 holiday season.

In the announcement we learned that this years tree comes from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The beautiful 74-foot Norway Spruce weighs in at 11 tons and will arrive in New York City on Saturday, November 9th. That's when it will be decked out in all those pretty lights and topped with a fancy crystal star.

This is the first year since 1959 that a tree has been from Massachusetts. And this is where the problem lies.

Shouldn't the Rockefeller Center Tree be from New York? It just makes sense! This is the 92nd year of having the holiday spectacle on display, 36 of those years the tree has been from New York. Out of those 36,  20 of those years the tree has come from the Hudson Valley region.

Sure, there were other states like Vermont, Maine, Ohio and Pennsylvania where the trees were from.

But there's just something about the iconic tree not being from NY that doesn't sit well with me. It ignites the NY- MA rivalry all over again!

Personally, I think the Rockefeller Center Tree should be from NY. Am I wrong?!

New York-Massachusetts Rivalry Strikes Again

I know I can't be the only one who recognizes this feeling.

Being a born and bred New Yorker, there's only one rivalry that sticks out in my mind. It's NY vs. Boston, obviously. While the rivalry is deep-rooted in the sports world, there are other ways that it pops up every now and then.

Last fall, near the Bash Bish trail on the NY-MA boarder, someone from Massachusetts thought it would be funny to blow all of the leaves that fell on their side of the boarder line on to the NY side.

Taconic State Park wrote on Facebook at the time "Well played Massachusetts, well played…"

And the rivalry lives on...now in Christmas tree form.

Revisit the 2023 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree From NY

In 2023, the Rock Center tree came from our friends in Broome County. The 84-foot beauty made its journey to the big city through the Hudson Valley.

2023 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Makes Its Way to NYC

The 80-foot-12-ton beauty from Vestal, New York in Broome County is making its way down to New York City for the 2023 holiday season at Rockefeller Center.

It caught a little snag on the way down, but that didn't stop the gorgeous tree from being on display for the world to see during the holiday season.

I didn't want to say anything, but they New York tree from last year was 10-feet bigger... but who's counting?

Spirit Halloween Relaunches Spirit Christmas with 3 New York Locations

Spirit Christmas is a seasonal retail store operated by Spencer Spirit Holdings. A sister brand to Spirit Halloween, the store offers various decorations and costumes for the Christmas season, along with visits from Santa Claus. If you're expecting it to be a spooky kind of Christmas store, don't. It will be a tried and true Christmas store.

At some point, the 1990’s incarnation of the store was discontinued. Spencer Gifts tested the concept themselves after acquiring the Spirit Halloween brand in 1999, operating their own Spirit Christmas stores in 2005 and 2006. In 2024, the store was revived once more, with 10 locations set to open.
