The Putnam County SPCA is asking for the public's help with a disturbing case they are working on. Sadly, it involves the mutilation of animals. This is something that they report has been going on for a few months.

This past week, the Putnam County SPCA reached out through social media to request the public's help with locating who might be responsible for the death of some chicklens. The conditions that the birds were found in point to human involvement, not animals such as fox or coyote.

According to the post the Putnam County SPCA shared on Friday, October 3rd, 2025, at around 4:34 PM, the Putnam County SPCA Law Enforcement Division was contacted about a bag of dead birds. The Town of Kent Police Department was the agency that reached out.

The reason for the call was that a clear garbage bag containing dead birds had been discovered on the side of Holland Drive close to Route 52 in the area of Lake Carmel. The Putnam County SPCA responded, which is when they determined that there were multiple birds killed and mutilated.

Dead Birds Found in Mutilated Condition in Putnam County

Upon arrival, Putnam County SPCA Detectives observed two (2) mutilated and decapitated roosters/chickens and one (1) mutilated and decapitated white dove inside the bag. The area where this bag was found was only a short distance from where other bags of mutilated animals have been found in recent months, possibly the result of ritualistic killings.

The Putnam County SPCA asks anyone with information regarding this incident to contact them on the hotline (845) 520 - 6915. Calls can remain anonymous. There is a reward of $1000 being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this crime.
