A late-night call for the City of Poughkeepsie firefighters turned into a mission to save 4 animals.

E-Bike Catches Fire in City of Poughkeepsie Home

Late Monday night, July 8th, 2024, firefighters in the City of Poughkeepsie were dispatched to a call at a residence on Whinfield Street. According to the report, smoke was coming out of the home.

City of Poughkeepsie firefighter and photographer Bill Johnson explains in a social media post that the number of people inside the home was unknown at the time of arrival. Johnson writes that firefighters "forced entry and found a burning E-Bike in the kitchen of the residence and heavy smoke throughout."

The firefighters worked quickly to put out the E-Bike and then dragged it outside of the residence.

Firefighters Find Unconcious Dog in Smoke-Filled Poughkeepsie, NY Home

While one crew was working on the E-Bike, another crew of firefighters was checking the Poughkeepsie New York home for any occupants inside.

Thankfully, no people were found inside. However, firefighters came across an unconscious dog, 2 ferrets, and another dog.

Firefighters worked quickly, providing lifesaving actions to the unconscious pup. After a short time the dog, named Nala, began to regain consciousness. Johnson reports that Nala "was clearly happy to see her owners when they returned home."
