Police Arrest Mahopac Women In Last Friday’s Fatal Hit And Run

A Mahopac women is now in police custody after being sought in a fatal hit and run on Friday night in Lake Mahopac.

What makes this even more of a tragedy is that this same women was just arrested back in May for drunk driving on the New York State Thruway. At the time of that arrest her blood alcohol level was reported by police to be .27 percent, which is well above the legal limit of 0.08. That DWI arrest took place after other drivers reported a car driving erratic on I-87 northbound.

According to patch.com, Police are reporting that the same woman, Maggie Deperna of Mahopac, has been accused of killing James Crecco on Friday night in a hit and run that left Crecco in serious condition, he later died from those injuries en route to the hospital.

Deperna was found and arrested on Saturday, and has been charged with two felonies, criminally negligent homicide, and leaving the scence of the incident without reporting it to police. She's also been charged with two misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated, and has been charged with manslaughter and DWI.

Before being arrested on Saturday, Carmel police had asked the public for assistance and any clues that would lead to the apprehension of the person involed in this tragic hit and run.

Now that she has been taken into custody, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department has taken over the case and is reporting that Deperna has been assigned to the Putnam County Correctional Facility and is being held on 100 thousand dollars bond.
