Pedestrian Walkway Being Added To Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge

You may be wondering what they've been up to on the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge. There's construction and it's all part of plans for the new Empire State Rail Trail.

According to plans released by Governor Cuomo's office, the trail will use the bridge to connect the Dutchess and Ulster County sides. A four-foot pedestrian walkway is being constructed on the south side of the bridge and is expected to be completed this fall. Anyone riding a bike will need to share the roadway with automobiles.

The walkway will be ADA compliant and will included passing zones and turnarounds every 200 feet. Upon completion of the project, the speed limit on the bridge will be reduced from 40 to 35 miles per hour.

There will be parking available on both sides of the bridge and Hours of operation will be from dawn to dusk. When completed in 2020, the Empire State Trail will link New York City to the Canadian border and Albany to Buffalo.
