Back-to-School Shopping Has Changed in the Hudson Valley, NY

If you have children going back to school soon, you're well aware that back-to-school shopping in 2025 is far different then it was back in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

Today, most shopping occurs online, where you can find almost anything in any size. Yes, it's convenient, but it can never replace the fun of going shopping with the family at some of our favorite stores. Right?

The Hudson Valley was once home to a variety of stores that families would rush to, hoping to get everything needed for back to school in one trip. Today we have Walmart, Target, and Kohl's, which are okay, but back in the day, we had so many other choices.

Trip Down Memory Lane

My house was a Jamesway house, and most years around the middle of August, we would pile into the car and head to Jamesway in Kingston, NY, for a full day of shopping for all the kids.

I can remember it being one of the longest days of shopping I'd ever experienced, but looking back today, I loved every minute of it and kind of miss those trips.
