NY Officials Step In After Spurs Try to Shut Out Knicks Fans

Game 5 Drama in Texas: Knicks Vs. Spurs

The New York Knicks are NBA Champions as they took home the Larry O'Brien Trophy on Saturday June 13th, 2026 after defeating the San Antonio Spurs.

However, before the game New York fans traveling to Texas were in a panic as rumors swirled that their tickets to Game 5 would be canceled.

Thankfully, these rumors weren't true. However, there were moves being made behind the scene to block New Yorkers from entering Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.

According to Yahoo News, before Game 5 "the spurs enacted a policy to quietly ban anyone outside of a 150-mile radius of the Frost Bank Center from purchasing a ticket to the game."

New Yorkers were traveling to Texas as ticket prices to see the NBA Finals were much cheaper there than at Madison Square Garden.

Those trying to buy tickets that lived outside of the 150-mile radius received a message that said "“Frost Bank Center is located in San Antonio, Texas. Sales to this event will be restricted to customers residing within a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center,” the note reads."

New York Officials Fight Back After Fans Ban From Texas Venue

As the news of the ticket ban made news across the country, local officials shared their thoughts on the move.

If fans want to spend their hard earned money to travel across the country to support their team, they should be allowed to do so. As the most dedicated fan base on earth, Knicks fans deserve it.

Ticketmaster explained in a statement that this a common practice and has been done before.

The Spurs organization told NBC News that the police allows the team to prioritize “local fans across San Antonio, Austin and surrounding communities.”

When it was all said and done, the Knicks showed the Spurs who had the final say.

The New York Knicks beat the Spurs 4 games to 1 in the 2026 NBA Finals, winning Game 5 94-90 in Texas.
