Next Sunday We Go Racing

Today is qualify day for The Daytona 500 and you can watch it all on fold on Fox.

This time next Sunday we will all be sitting either in person or in front of the TV enjoying the official start of the 2016 NASCAR season. There is an entire week of events leading up to this year's running of the Daytona 500 which was first run in 1959 and has been the NASCAR season opener since 1982.

The first Daytona 500 was won by Lee Petty in an Oldsmobile. Since it's inception 37 different drivers have won the race, some drivers have won multiple times. The driver who has won the most is Richard Petty with a total of 7 Daytona checkered flags.

One of my favorite family vacation memories is when we went to Daytona to watch my Uncle Butch (Wayne Trinkle) run in ARCA. I wasn't actually there the year that the photo in the link was taken but you can see why I am a race fan since childhood.
