Not when it comes to road trip destinations according to folks at Wallet Hub. New York is indeed one of the most wallet-friendly destinations for road trips in 2024 and with 75% of American adults planning to take some sort of road trip this year New York should be proud.

Best States to Road Trip in the Summer

To come up with the best states for road trips this year the finance folks at Wallet Hub weighed various factors (32) from 50 states including the states offering the most attractions, road conditions (safety), and gas and accommodations costs. Texas received the best scores in 2024 in most categories leading to the Lonestar state taking the #1 spot this year followed by Minnesota at #2.

New York Takes #3

New York has officially been named the third-best "Road-Trip Destination for Summer" state!! New York ranks so high this year due to numerous factors including the large number of attractions and nightlife activities available. New York also ranks near the top when it comes to accommodations and restaurants and we have the second most National Historic Landmarks per capita, making it easy to plan a fun road trip exploring the rich history of the state.

On the safety side, New York has the third-lowest share of uninsured motorists and the third-most protective driving laws, which helps make the roads safer for road-trippers.
