Hyde Park Town Supervisor Al Torreggiani says the effort was always about one thing: keeping people safe.

“Public safety has been a top priority,” Torreggiani said, adding that while the process took time, it’s a relief to finally see it completed.

He also made it clear this wasn’t a solo effort. Several local and county officials played a role in pushing the change forward, including Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, Public Works Commissioner Bob Balkind, Traffic Engineer Stephen Gill, and former Highway Superintendent Howie Fisher.

Torreggiani is calling on motorists to ease off the gas and follow the updated speed limit.

"Drivers must slow down," he said. "I am encouraging the Town Police to actively enforce these new limits to ensure the safety of our residents and students."
