It has been a troubling couple of weeks for Tony Stewart.

He had a run in with a fan at a dirt track a few weeks that was all caught on video.

And now we have learned that Tony was hospitalized on Sunday following an ATV accident.

According to ESPN, Tony Stewart is hospitalized for a back injury that he suffered while driving an all-terrain vehicle.

Stewart-Haas Racing spokesman Mike Arning told ESPN that Tony flipped a sand buggy outside of San Diego and was airlifted to a hospital. Tony is awake, alert and able to move his extremities. We can expect an update on Tony's condition by Thursday.

Once NASCAR was made aware of the accident the released a statement. NASCAR chairman Brian France said,

"On behalf of everyone at NASCAR, I wish Tony a full recovery and look forward to seeing him back in our sport when he's ready to return."

2016 will be Stewart's last NASCAR season.
