
Multiple Gunshot Incidents Reported in Poughkeepsie, New York
Police are investigating three separate gunshot incidents at various locations in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Oftentimes, around this time of year, many Hudson Valley police departments will begin to receive calls from concerned residents who contact them to report hearing gunshots. Thankfully, in most cases, the person calling to report hearing gun shots has the sound confused with the similar sound of fireworks, which are common on summer holiday weekends.
Unfortunately, that isn't what happened over the Memorial Day weekend in three different locations in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Gunshots Ring Out in Poughkeepsie, New York
Law enforcement agencies in the Poughkeepsie area were busy over the weekend investigating three separate reports of multiple gunshots fired. According to the City of Poughkeepsie PBA Facebook page, the first incident happened on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at approximately 11:41 p.m. when the City of Poughkeepsie 911 received a report of shots fired in the area of Gray Street and Forbus Street.
Multiple police units responded to the scene and determined that a residence on Gray Street had been struck by gunfire. Police canvassed the area and located and collected evidence from the scene.
Second Report of Gunshots in Poughkeepsie
The second report happened on Monday, May 26, at approximately 9:13 p.m. when officers patrolling on foot reported hearing gun shots around the 400 block of Main Street in Poughkeepsie. Multiple police units were dispatched to the area and, upon arrival, located what appeared to be a crime scene on Cannon Street.

Police said that they collected multiple items of evidence at the scene, including spent shell casings.
Third Report of Gunshots in Poughkeepsie
Less than an hour later, at approximately 9:55 p.m. Sunday, 911 received a report of shots fired in the area of Pine Street. 9111 dispatched multiple units to the area, and upon arrival, officers located a crime scene on South Avenue.
Police began investigating the scene and determined that an occupied vehicle had been struck by gunfire. Officers collected multiple items of evidence, including numerous spent shell casings at the scene.
Investigation is Ongoing
It's unclear if all three incidents are connected or not, but police did say that an investigation into all three incidents is ongoing. They also asked anyone who might have any information regarding the incidents to please call the confidential TIP LINE at (845)451-7577.
