If you're a fan of the holidays, you do what you can to be the first to get your decorations up as soon as the last Trick-or-Treater leaves on Halloween.

You're also probably one of the first people in line to get into the much talked about Spirit Christmas that was said to be opening in Poughkeepsie, NY.

On Monday, November 11th, 2024 a line began to form around 12:30 pm in front of the South Road Plaza location. A sign on the front door said "Opening at 1 pm." Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

After waiting for over an hour, employees told those on line the store was "not fit" to open that day. They went on to put a sign outside the door that said "Not Open Today."

What To Expect When You Visit Spirit Christmas in Poughkeepsie, NY

After the debacle that was opening day, Spirit Christmas has officially opened their doors and will be opened through the holiday season.

There's no question about it, Spirit Christmas brings the holiday cheer with walls filled with home décor, lawn ornaments, gingerbread houses, apparel and so much more.

It should be noted that when we visited the Dutchess County Spirit Christmas location it was its second day open and they were still receiving shipments of products. FedEx was literally delivering a huge order while I was checking out.

Expect more holiday fun lining the shelves in the future!

Spirit Christmas Not Opening 1 NY Location

When we first heard about Spirit Christmas there were 10 locations that were initially announced. 3 of them were in New York, which was super exciting for local holiday fanatics.

Spirit Halloween Relaunches Spirit Christmas with 3 New York Locations

Spirit Christmas is a seasonal retail store operated by Spencer Spirit Holdings. A sister brand to Spirit Halloween, the store offers various decorations and costumes for the Christmas season, along with visits from Santa Claus. If you're expecting it to be a spooky kind of Christmas store, don't. It will be a tried and true Christmas store.

At some point, the 1990’s incarnation of the store was discontinued. Spencer Gifts tested the concept themselves after acquiring the Spirit Halloween brand in 1999, operating their own Spirit Christmas stores in 2005 and 2006. In 2024, the store was revived once more, with 10 locations set to open. Below, you can find the full list of locations

Inappropriate Items Found at Spirit Christmas in Poughkeepsie, NY

The following items were all on display for children to see at the Spirit Christmas store on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie, New York. The store welcomes young children to visit with Santa and tour a gingerbread village display right next to many of these items.
