Fall is the best season to experience the outdoors in the Hudson Valley and if you've never checked out Opus 40, you're missing out. The handmade sculpture spans over six years and took 37 years to create. Located in Saugerties New York, it was created by sculptor Harvey Fite.

Curbed New York took a look at the beautiful site in a video that features several important historical details. The sculpture is inspired by the Mayan ruins in Honduras and was originally built as a space to host his art. But after many years of work, the space itself became the art.

According to the Opus 40 website, Fite was a professor at Bard College and was one of the founders of the fine art department. When he retired he was able to work on the property full time, sadly he passed in 1976--37 years into the job. He had initially predicted it would take him 40 years to finish.

You can visit the impressive installation Thursday through Sunday from 11-5:30 PM and they even host weddings and other events too. If you'd like to take things a step further, you can support Opus 40 financially by becoming a member.
